The world of foldables welcomes a new member to the fold. With the introduction of the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, announced on July 10th, 2024, will this phone live up to expectations as Samsung's sixth iteration

In this article, we will be going over every important aspect of the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, from the display, build, camera, battery, and so on. So stick around if you want to know all about Fold 6.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6
Build and Design

The new Galaxy phone may have a good majority hinted at from its predecessor, but there are a few tweaks to the design, such as the new phone being much lighter than its predecessor (a good 14 grams).

The phone has more edges and lines, making it very similar to the Note S and S Ultra phones. The edges may feel a bit uncomfortable on the palm, but it's not enough to upset you.

We get a screen protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front and back of the phone, and a slightly changed rear camera design.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 dimensions:

Folded: 68.1 x 153.5 x 12.1mm

Unfolded: 132.6 x 153.5 x 5.6mm

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 comes with a new and exciting set of colors that they can get in, including Navy, Pink, and Silver Shadow (two additional hues that are exclusively available on Samsung.com: white and crafted black).

Screen and Display

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has just about the same screen when it comes to the main screen, but the aspect ratios have changed to 20.9:18 vs. 21.6:18. The screen is a beautiful 7.6-inch dynamic AMOLED screen with the added perk of adaptive refresh rate technology, which supports anywhere from 1 to 120 Hz. The adaptive technology enabled the screen to dial down the refresh rate when it is not actively doing something or when it is doing something that will be just fine with less than 120 Hz, a feature that proves needed when it comes down to battery management and longevity.

The cover screen is a beautiful 6.3-inch, 968 x 2376-pixel display. This year, the cover is more usable thanks to the new boxy shape of the phone and trimmed symmetrical bezels.

Both displays on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 have a peak brightness of 2600 nits, which makes for a crystal clear screen even if you are in bright lighting conditions, like, say, the outdoors on a bright sunny day.

Cameras

This is probably one of the most important specs to talk about in a phone, so let's talk about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 cameras. The new Fold 6 comes equipped with the same camera configurations as its predecessor, which is a triple camera system at the back and two selfie cameras, one on the main screen and the other on the cover screen.

The rear cameras are a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, a 50 MP wide-angle camera, and a 10 MP telephoto camera. A 10 MP main selfie camera and a 4 MP under-display selfie camera.

Storage and RAM

When it comes down to storage, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 comes in three configurations, starting with 256GB and 512GB, before racking up to a mouthwatering 1 TB of space.

All variants come with a high-performance 12GB LPDDR5X CPU and the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which makes this a device that can multitask and run heavy-duty applications without a hitch in performance.

You can get your hands on the 12/256GB memory option for $1,899.99. For the 512GB model, you would need about $1,999.99. For the apex memory option of 1 TB of onboard memory, you would need to set aside a whopping $2,199.99.

Battery and Charging

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 might be a powerhouse device, but a long-lasting battery is crucial for a phone of this caliber. Samsung understood that, and the Fold 6 delivers.

The Fold 6 boasts a dual-battery system, totaling 4400 mAh. While it might not have the highest capacity on the market, it stays competitive and optimizes power usage for the phone's foldable design. This translates to a reliable battery that gets you through your day without worrying.

The Fold 6 supports 25W wired charging, enabling you to quickly top up your phone. In just 30 minutes, you can go from near empty to 50% charge—perfect for those times when you need a quick boost. For added convenience, the Fold 6 also supports wireless charging. Need to share some power? No problem! Wireless power sharing lets you act as a charging station for your friend's phone in a pinch.

Crease and Hinge

The crease has always been an issue on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold phones and this year we've seen some nice improvements. The crease is now less visible than its predecessors. Moving on the hinge on the Z Fold 6 is improved over previous generations and not just its functionality, its look better.

Software and Features

For a phone with a high price tag, it's no surprise that this phone comes with all the bells and whistles out of the box. This phone runs on Android 14 and the One UI 6.1.1 from Samsung. Its seven-year full software update also means that it will be getting all of the new updates to the Android system as they come out for the next seven years.

Added features and perks include the addition of the Google Gemini, a browsing assistant, a circle to search, a note assist, a transcript assist, and some new additions to the things that the camera app can carry out. One of the most exciting new features is the sketch-to-image feature powered by the Galaxy Ai.

Sketch to Image is an AI-powered tool that lets you transform simple sketches into full-fledged images. It utilizes your Galaxy device's S Pen or finger drawings and applies machine learning to generate a complete image based on your concept. The best part is that this feature doesn't just work with notes; you can use it to generate content into pictures.

The Fold 6 unfolds a world of possibilities. Powerful performance, a gorgeous foldable display, and innovative features like Sketch to Image make it a must-have for multitaskers and creative minds. Long battery life and fast charging keep you powered up. The future of smartphones is here.
